Summing it up

They don't call 'em Deathtraps for nothin'.

Some people really get it. Holly is one of those people and she documented her trip with the Deathtraps MC to the Chop Meet really nicely. You can see her photos here. To her and the crew it was a good excuse to get out and ride the mountains, camp and party with old friends and spend some time on the road. Jake even blessed us with the grand finale at the end with a sweet attempt at the unofficial hill climb that had been taunting everyone all day.

Camping rules. It's even better if you bring a sleeping bag! Our friend Doug from San Clemente camped with some friends in the same Table Rock Campground as the DTMC guys and they got their cooler raided by an angry bear in the middle of the night. Said he about crapped his pants. Good thing it looks like these guys only brought beer.

Quality bikes here, gents. Not just some softail with stick-on tribal flames, this is hand-built madness of all makes in this line up.

Vallely and Revolution Mother rocked in the midday sun. Pro skater and rock star on the come up, Mike was cool enough to chat with my kid about skating and all the RevMo guys were top notch to deal with.

Capt. Sean from Throw Rag is the ultimate showman. Anyone who missed this show lost out, it was world class rock and roll. I'm positive they made some new fans Saturday evening with their energetic performance. I know I'll see these guys any chance I get after seeing them live at the Chop Meet.

BIG THANKS

Thanks to everyone who rode out and enjoyed our first annual Chop Meet at Mt. High. We were blessed with loads of sunshine, trucks full of old parts, hundreds of awesome older custom motorcycles of all brands and types, and some energetic punk rock. Throw Rag's wild set was followed by Dago Jake's outlaw run up the mountain (yes he made it pretty damn far!). Thanks to the vendors for coming out, riders for bringing such garage-built goodness and all of our volunteers who busted their butts to try to make the event as smooth as possible. Thanks to the town of Wrightwood for putting up with us! We learned a lot and had a great time.

Reminders...

We'll see you guys on the mountain. We're taking off Thursday to get up there early and set stuff up so don't expect any more blog updates, emails, etc. Here's a few last minute reminders;

Treat the locals with respect. You want to come back next year? Be nice in town. Act like an idiot and you'll ruin it for everyone. Buy gas and food in Wrightwood, this is off-season for a winter-sport-oriented town and they'll be stoked.

Bikes park for free and are encouraged to ride into the venue and park in designated bike spots. All bikes inside the gates of the venue are considered entered in the Bike Show. Don't bother washing your bike, that's not the point.

Kids under 15 are free with a paying parent or guardian.

Make sure to grab a free raffle ticket on the way in, we've got a TON of swag to give away from the stage.

If you need anything, find someone in a orange Chop Meet t-shirt, they can help or find someone who can.

If you are coming from LA, hwy 2 is closed, take the alternate route 'round the backside. See map for details.

Basic schedule:

2:00 p.m.—Bikes to be considered in the show need to be in the venue.

2:00 p.m.–2:45 p.m.—The Whitewalls on Main Stage

3:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m.—Revolution Mother on Main Stage

5:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.—Bike Show winners announced on Main Stage; awards presentation and photo opportunity with trophy girls

7:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.—Throw Rag on Main Stage

8:00 p.m.—Last call for alcohol

9:00 p.m.—Gates closed, get the hell out!

A couple bike show notes: Any bike in the venue is eligible for an award. We have ones for various classes and several industry celebs will pick their choices too. Awards will be given out from the stage and will be announced by license plate number if we don't know the owner's name. If you see a wristband magically appear on your bars, you should be around the stage by 5:30.

Big thanks to all the vendors, family, friends and all of our volunteers who are making this happen. Have fun, ride safe and we'll see you on the hill...

Future Shop Rags!

Check out the event shirts we just got in. Fellow chopper freak, Andy and his crew out at American Icon in NY printed these full-color units up for us and delivered on time as usual. We'll be selling them in a merch booth on Saturday. Black or Natural, on 100% pre shrunk cotton Hanes Beefy T's, not some crappy 50/50 disposable shirt blanks. Small thru XXXL and some for the ladies too. They remind me of the cheesy iron-ons I used to wear way back in grade school but these don't feel like you are wearing a big sticker 'cause they are printed with super-thin inks and already have that weathered feel. Thanks American Icon!
